10 Reasons Why You Should Start Blogging

1. You become better at writing

Whether you like it or not, writing today has become an integral part in almost every single aspect of life. Hence, many people are making a good income out of writing professionally or casually.

Concern over bad writing is not an excuse for you, but instead, it should be the encouraging factor to start blogging now. As the time goes by, your writing skill will improve tremendously - you will go from creating a 5-word sentence to one with 10 words; you’ll start looking up the dictionary for new vocabs; you will start compiling your report instead of asking someone else to do it.

One fine day all your blog writing can even be compiled into a book and start giving you a handsome passive income every month.

2. You learn to manage your time better

Unless you intend to write a blog entry today and the next in 6 months time (which will defeat the whole purpose anyway), blogging commands some great deal of time management, discipline and respect. Look around you and you will find that those colleagues who blog (and do it consistently) are those who know how to manage their time effectively and efficiently. Perhaps they’re doing the same job function as you, work around the same office time, and have 24 hours per day and not a minute longer. The difference is, they can accomplish a lot more things than you within this 24-hour window.

3. You will improve your knowledge

Inevitably, the more you blog, the more knowledge you will gain, and the more wisdom will kick in. Making your expression counts on certain subjects will also be made relatively easier. If you continue writing about gym work out for years, you will be surprised to see how much information about the gym work out you wrote for the past 2 years is actually new to you once you look back at your old writing.

On top of that, when you keep on writing about the same subject, people will start making you as their referral source, and bookmark your blog as their daily read. While you may reject the idea that you have somehow become a subject matter expert, it is not your decision to make - the readers decide.

4. You open up more opportunities

12 months down the road, don’t be surprised when you get a call from CEOs, Vice Presidents and industry leaders indicating their interest about one or more topics that you have written in the past. You may also get invitation from companies, colleges and organizations to become a speaker for their event, or a judge for some competition. Perhaps they want you to become a column writer for their periodical magazine, ezine or other publications. And things will get even more interesting when you are approached for a job offer from companies or recruiters.

5. You get more friends

They say when you go online too often you become a geek with no friends, and you lose out on the social interaction. The reality is opposite. Through blogging, you connect with strangers and like minded people which will eventually become your friends. These can be your readers, fellow bloggers, professionals, advertisers and others. When meetings and conventions are organized, the early virtual friendship evolves into real friendship, with real touch and real meaning. Some of the online friends get married. Sounds familiar? At this time, you will realize how powerful the impact of the cyber space to the community.

6. Blogging grows your career, business and hobby

The growth in knowledge will go hand-in-hand with growth in your career, business and hobby, all at one go. You become a source for referral, advice and consultation. By learning a thing a two about blogging technology and platforms, you set yourself apart from your peers. And with the right blogging marketing strategy, you will also increase the number of readers and visitors even more. Thus, your blog becomes a powerful tool to promote your products and services and the eventual results can go beyond your wildest dreams.

7. Blogging today is easy - no need to be a coding developer, webmaster

One of the many reasons people who never blog continue to shy away from the blogging world is the perception of complexity and IT illiteracy. Today, for someone who wants to start creating a blog and write their first article, he or she never needs to be a coding developer, a webmaster, a programmer or a graphic designer. Everything can be done in less than 10 minutes and someone with virtually zero IT knowledge can do it. If it still sounds overwhelming, ask around and there will be one helping hand to guide you.

8. Low maintenance

The cost of starting a blog ranges from zero to a few hundred dollars. This means that no matter how stingy you are, you can still start a blog without any cost using free platforms such as WordPress, Blogspot, TypePad and many others. As you start enjoying the knack of blogging, then consider investing a few dollars in a new domain name, hosting and templates or web themes, whenever necessary. This will do you good in the long run.

9. Make some, or a lot of money, out of it

The time may come when you sit down looking at your blog readership and income statistics and realize that you can now generate a full time income. Suddenly you find yourself having a healthy choice of either staying with whatever job you’re doing or become a full time blogger and make money from home. These days, the stories of people who quit their day time job and become full time bloggers are no longer miracles as they happen almost every day. Certainly, making their way from scratch to full time blogging comes a long way as it requires huge effort and sacrifice but they deserve it.

10. You are building an asset

As your blog grows, you’re building something that grows in value. Does it ring a bell? Yes, that’s what we call an asset. An asset is something that people would pay for when they want to acquire it, just like your house, land, stock options, gold and so on. The definition of asset is also no longer limited to tangible goods that you can touch, feel or taste. Today, a website can be valued higher than a real estate property. There have been countless of stories in the cyberspace where people started their blog with a few hundred dollars and sold it for $10,000 and even millions
